Andy Disney grew up in Wivey “so I was delighted when the opportunity arose to coach at the club.”  Over five years, he has built his skills to the point where he qualified in February as a Level 3 LTA Accredited Coach. He supervises regular weekly coaching for the club’s increasing band of juniors, as well as running  the Club’s part in the LTA Tennis for Kids programme.  Andy runs a popular weekly cardiotennis session, and serves on the club’s managing committee.  He also coaches at Ilminster and works with Ivor at Blackbrook on disabled tennis.

Ivor Griffiths was head coach at the club for 20 years before moving to Minehead Club and then Taunton’s Blackbrook Tennis Centre. But Ivor, who lives in Wiveliscombe, is back on court at Wivey every Wednesday morning for what is misleadingly nicknamed Rusty Racquets: some of his charges prove a tough challenge on court when they ‘graduate.’    Ivor has also dedicated huge efforts to helping disabled players, from wheelchair tennis to working with the visually impaired and mentally disabled athletes, winning the national Disability Coach of the Year award in 2015.

Alex Harvey is relatively new to the club but has rapidly made his mark here after 20 years working as both a high-level player and coach. Alex competed in a national final in Nottingham and reached the semi-finals at the Hilton Head Championships in the US. He has trained and managed at clubs in Italy, France, USA, Greece and Antigua.  For the past 14 years, he has been working in London as a senior pro at Roehampton and Wimbledon clubs, as well as working at the National Tennis Centre in London training some of the country’s top juniors.  “It’s been fantastic being back in Wivey, and I welcome all levels of players.”
